Anchovy

The Anchovy is one of the easiest fish to catch in Stardew Valley, making it a great confidence booster for new anglers. You can find this small schooling fish in the ocean during Spring and Fall at any time of day, so just head down to the beach near Willy's shop and cast your line from the shoreline or the wooden pier. In the fishing mini-game, the Anchovy barely moves at all, sitting near the bottom of the bar and making it almost impossible to lose. You will not need any special tackle for this catch, though if you are just starting out, even a basic rod will do the job. At only 30g base sell price, the Anchovy is not going to make you rich, but it serves several useful purposes. It is not required for any Community Center bundles, so feel free to use it however you like. The Anchovy works well as a cheap ingredient for Sashimi, which converts any fish into a decent energy food, and it can also be used in Maki Roll and Quality Fertilizer recipes. Since it appears in both Spring and Fall, you have plenty of opportunities to catch it throughout the year. New players should use the Anchovy as practice for the fishing mini-game before tackling harder catches. Keep a few on hand for cooking, and sell the rest for a small but steady income stream during your early days on the farm.
