How to Catch Lava Eel

The Lava Eel is one of the most challenging non-legendary fish in Stardew Valley, found in the lava pools on floor 100 of the Mines and in the Volcano Caldera on Ginger Island. You can catch it at any time of day, in any season, and in any weather. To reach floor 100, use the elevator and look for the lava lake on that level. In the fishing mini-game, the Lava Eel is extremely difficult with fast, erratic movements that rival some legendary fish in intensity. An Iridium Rod with a Trap Bobber is strongly recommended, and eating fishing buff food like Seafoam Pudding will significantly improve your chances. At 700g base sell price, the Lava Eel is one of the most valuable non-legendary fish in the game, and iridium quality specimens can sell for over 2000g. It is not required for any Community Center bundles. The Lava Eel is an outstanding fish to place in a Fish Pond, where it produces Gold Ore, Magma Geodes, and eventually Magma Caps at higher population levels. Building a Lava Eel Fish Pond is one of the best late-game passive income strategies. The Volcano Caldera on Ginger Island provides an alternative fishing location with similar results. Given the high sell value and excellent Fish Pond output, the Lava Eel is well worth the effort despite its punishing difficulty. Consider dedicating a few mining trips specifically to Lava Eel fishing once you are confident in your skills.
