Bream

The Bream is a common nighttime river fish that can be caught year-round, making it one of the most accessible fish in Stardew Valley. Head to any river location in Pelican Town or Cindersap Forest and cast your line between 6pm and 2am. The Bream is very easy to catch in the fishing mini-game, barely moving and staying near the bottom of the bar, so even beginners with low fishing skill should have no trouble reeling it in. No special tackle is needed, and even the basic Bamboo Pole will get the job done. At 45g base sell price, the Bream will not make you wealthy, but it has an important role as a required fish for the Night Fishing Bundle in the Community Center's Fish Tank. Make sure to donate one to the bundle before selling or cooking the rest. The Bream can be used in Sashimi, Maki Roll, Quality Fertilizer, and Fish Stew recipes. Since it is available in all four seasons and only requires nighttime fishing, you can catch it whenever it is convenient. It pairs well with evening farm chores since you can head to the river after finishing your daily tasks. New players should catch their first Bream early in Spring to check off the Night Fishing Bundle requirement, then use any extras for cooking or selling. The Bream is also a decent choice for the Sashimi recipe, turning a low-value fish into a useful energy food.
